Last night’s 4.7 earthquake that originated less than five miles from our home on the Newport-Inglewood fault shook mommy up a little. I was putting Liam to bed when it happened and immediately scooped him up, protecting his little noggin and ran into a doorway upstairs on the third floor. Then of course my thoughts went to Joe and Dean both on different floors of our tri-level condo. I hated that we were all so separated but I was glad I was with Liam when it happened. Liam didn’t seem phased at all; he just cuddled into mommy and was as quite as a little mouse. It passed quickly, with a short aftershock that came a little while later.

Dean was asleep during the whole ordeal, we checked in on him shortly after and he was completely out. The next morning we asked him if he felt anything and he said he didn’t. Daddy told him a little about the earthquake and then mommy came in after and told him that it wasn’t too scary, to which Dean responded, "I think daddy was scared." He also told me that everybody was safe and that no one got hurt.

This was Dean’s second earthquake, his first was during the day at daycare and all the kids went running outside when it happened. I was pregnant with Liam at the time, so technically this would be Liam’s first earthquake out of utero Smile

He went down at 9 p.m. and didn’t wake up until shortly after 6 a.m. – 9 straight hours – the longest he has ever gone!!! Mommy is a very happy lady today and Liam seems in good spirits too after a good nights sleep!!!

Here is a picture of Liam this morning, hanging with the gang in Dean’s room. This is our morning routine, while I get Dean ready, Liam sits in this chair and watches.

Love my boys!!!

We had a fun-filled mothers day weekend. We went to a wine Friday party at our friends house, saw a cool fire show at the Torrance Fire Department, played tennis, went to breakfast and just hung around home playing, reading and watching movies.

Liam turned 3 months on Friday. He is growing up so fast. He started reaching for and grabing his toys in his baby gym the other day, so fun to see.

Money is Good!

Dean has recently started to show an interest in money, he finds coins around the house and comes running to mommy or daddy proudly holding up the shiny coin. We’ve taken the opportunity to teach him the importance of saving, showing him the coin collector tin that we put our money into for safe keeping and how he can put his coins into his very own Lightening McQueen bank until he has enough money saved to buy something special.

The other day Dean went running up to daddy to show him the coin he had found and daddy said “Good job buddy, money is good.” To which Dean responded, “No daddy; money isn’t good, candy is good.” He does have a point!

Dean and I started up our evening Mommy and Me classes again. The class has been great for Dean, he has a blast running around with the other kids, doing crafts that the teacher has set up and singing and dancing during circle time. He is a lot more interactive with the kids in his class compared to last year; it’s been fun to watch.

A few weeks ago Dean and one of his friends Noah were playing in a stationary car, a jungle gym like structure. Dean had a whole adventure planned out, he was pretending the car was a fire truck and that they were fire fighters going to save the cat in the tree. He was explaining the plan to Noah who sat there quietly taking it all in and then Noah said “but this car doesn’t move.” Dean quickly dismissed this thought and continued talking about the rescue mission, meanwhile Noah got out of the car to investigate the wheels. As Noah was down on his hands and knees trying to turn the car wheels he said with a puzzled look on his face, “the wheels are stuck.” At this point Dean decided to play along with Noah, he got out of the car, pretended to fix the wheels, and then got back in the car and said to Noah “come on Noah, let’s go, we fixed the car.” But Noah still wasn’t buying it and said “but the wheels are stuck, they are really, really stuck.”

Noah’s mom and I were cracking up at this point, what a difference in the two styles of play — Dean the creative, imaginative child and Noah the practical, logical thinker. Noah is going to be the first kid for sure to figure out that the tooth fairy isn’t real.
